What an insane week! Well, I’m planning for things to get even crazier this weekend, so let’s go ahead and move on full speed- onward with the history!
June 15th, 1911: IBM is founded in Endicott, NY (originally as The Computing-Tabulating-Recording Co.).
June 15th, 1973: Actor extraordinaire, Neil Patrick Harris is born in Albuquerque, New Mexico. (Check out the awesome birthday present I made for NPH last year! It’s still sitting in a special box awaiting for his appearance in Kansas City.)
June 16th, 1996: Batman Forever opens in theaters.
June 18th, 1898: M.C. Escher is born in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. (I’m a champion of D&D…MC Escher is my favorite MC…Sorry, it’s stuck in my head now.)
June 18th, 1983: Dr. Sally Ride becomes the first American woman (and youngest person at the time) to enter space.
June 18th, 2009: NASA launches the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter and Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite on their mission to the moon. LRO and LCROSS are a part of the first American lunar mission in 11 years.
June 19th, 1978: Star Fleet communications officer, pirate, and Na’vi princess, (well, at least the actress that plays all of those) Zoe Saldana, is born in Passaic, New Jersey.
June 20th, 1989: An actor probably best known for his awkward roles (McLovin’ in Superbad, Red Mist in Kick Ass, and the adorable LARP fanatic Augie in Role Models), Christopher Mintz-Plass is born in Los Angeles.
June 21st, 2003: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth book in the Harry Potter world, is released worldwide.
June 21st, 2004: SpaceShipOne takes the first privately funded space flight when it flies 4o0 feet above what scientists consider the boundary of space.
And, of course, in honor of the beautiful Miss Saldana, how about an Uhura Kiss for your Twist?
- 2 oz tequila (reposado or blanco, gold and anejo will be overpowering)
- 1.5 oz amoretto
- 1 oz chocolate syrup
- 1 oz soda water
- 5 cherries
Muddle the pitted cherries in your shaker. Add the rest of the ingredients, shake and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a (Hershey’s) kiss!
Lastly, let’s Garnish this with complete adorableness!
June is one of the most popular months to host a wedding and, in that spirit, I’ve got to share with you all something I found and fell in love with…GEEKVITES!
They’re beautifully crafted save-the-dates in a variety of themes ranging from Back to the Futureto Harry Potter. I’m especially in love with the ones reminiscent of Doctor Who and The Lord of the Rings, as well as the quirky Hitchhiker’s Guide and Zelda ones. I’m in love!
Well, moving on now, I’ve got a million things to do for the weekend…so, until next time, geek on!
