The Geekly with a Twist: January 13th-19th

Hey all.  I’m sorry about the later than usual Geekly this week, but it’s been a bit of a rough on here at the casa de Lush.  So, without stalling, onward with the history!

January 14th, 2005: The Huygens probe sent back pictures from the surface of Titan- Saturn’s moon.

January 15th, 1929: Civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. is born in Atlanta, Georgia.  While not necessarily geeky, we would be remiss to not mention the date.

January 16th, 1948: Movie giant and attempted stalkee of Miss Molly (see what I’m talking about here!), John Carpenter is born in Carthage, New York.

January 17th, 1706: Inventor, founding father, and quite possibly the first American geek, Benjamin Franklin is born in Boston, Massachusetts.

January 17th, 1931: The voice, Mr. James Earl Jones is born in a small community in Northwestern Mississippi.

January 17th, 1985: Leonard Nimoy gets his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

January 19th, 1809: Master of mysteries, horror, and the human mind, Edgar Allan Poe is born in Boston, Massachusetts.

So, it finally got cold here at the world headquarters of SciFi4Me (not for long, supposedly), so it’s time for something a little warm for the Twist…how about emulating the master of mysteries himself and try some Coffee à la Poe?

  • Coffee, brewed strong and dark
  • Jamaican rum (Appleton Estate is especially yummy)
  • A touch of cream or whipped cream (to taste)

Serve the coffee with Jamaican rum mixed in to desired strength and top with heavy cream or whipped cream to taste.  Make sure it warms your fingers and try to drown out the odd sounds from below the floorboards (and that darn black rat with wings that doesn’t want to leave your balcony).

And, of course, for the Find of the Week, I couldn’t resist but to share the most heartwarming story out of the geek world I’ve heard in a while.  If you’ve heard it already, good deal, but if not, it’s an irresistible read.

Check out the original blog post here!

Anyways, until next week (when hopefully there’s more history to report!), geek on!
